10 risks of therapy

Two brown and white dogs with fluffy coats are lying down against a muted pink background. They are both wearing black-rimmed glasses, giving them an intellectual look. A speech bubble from the dog on the left reads, 'Therapy? Sounds risky to me!'

A lot of people are talking about therapy these days

Maybe you’ve heard a friend, or a co-worker, or even a stand-up comedian mention they’re in therapy. You might be thinking, geez, maybe I should give it a try. Seems to be helping others, after all…

Before you do, I should warn you.

There are risks

People don’t always talk about the things that could happen if you start therapy. So, I’m here to share some information with you.

Beware! Your life could change if you go to therapy!

You might…

  1. start to understand yourself and your decisions better

  2. start connecting some dots between your actions now and your childhood experiences

  3. have to do some self-reflection (spoiler alert: you will!)

  4. develop more compassion for yourself

  5. start to want to change (***not guaranteed***)

  6. figure out some goals for your life

  7. feel better about yourself

  8. start having more compassion for others

  9. see your relationships improve

  10. feel more fulfillment and satisfaction in your life

You should go to therapy *only* if you’re willing to risk all those things happening.

EVEN WORSE: you could be on your way to a sense of inner peace. 😱

SYMPTOMS OF INNER PEACE

by Saskia Davis

Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner peace. The hearts of a great many already have been exposed; and it is possible that people, everywhere, could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what, up to now, has been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world.

Signs & Symptoms of Inner Peace

  • A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences

  • An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment

  • A loss of interest in judging other people

  • A loss of interest in judging self

  • A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others

  • A loss of interest in conflict

  • A loss of ability to worry

  • Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation

  • Contented feelings of connectedness with others & nature

  • Frequent attacks of smiling

  • An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen

  • An increased susceptibility to love extended by others and the uncontrollable urge to  extend it

WARNING: If you have some or all of the above symptoms, be advised that your condition of inner peace may be too far advanced to be curable. If you are exposed to anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms, remain exposed only at your own risk.
